Top Colors for Spring Largemouths
Colors are clique, and subjective to the largemouths of every lake type and fishery they inhabit. I’ve got my best colors that work universally, and I’ve also got my best colors that are specific to a fishery.
Color selection is an important area of study when considering what baits to use and when to fish them. There are thousands of color variations between jigs, plastics, and crankbaits to choose from and this is where bass fishing becomes overcomplicated.
Water clarity is the primary determining factor. Just like depth effects light penetration, water clarity also prevents light from illuminating your bait. The dirtier the water the more contrast you will need for your bait to get noticed. In clear water, green pumpkin is a good starting point. In stained water, consider reds and chartreuse, as they’ll have good visibility. In dirty water – which will happen naturally under rainfall, runoff, or algae blooms - you want white or blacks as they will have highest underwater contrast and visibility.
