The (new) St. Croix Avid 2024
A special delivery arrived at my doorstep earlier today. To my surprise, it was (3) newly re-designed St. Croix Avids.
In this quick reveal, I share my prelim. impressions, thoughts, and upcoming plan of action as these three rods will get used in my boat.
The next-generation of Avid stays true to its multi-species mission while improving performance starting with lighter, stronger SCIII+ hybrid carbon fiber blank designs that combine premium SCIII carbon and exotic SCVI carbon materials. The addition of stiff and lightweight SCVI carbon to our proven SCIII material results in rods that are lighter without sacrificing strength or durability, while improving overall feel and balance.
Next-generation Avid Series freshwater rods also reward anglers with improved ergonomics. We’ve retained the full-cork handle configuration that best supports multispecies pursuits, and incorporated new designs that make fishing Avid casting and spinning rods easier and more comfortable.
New Avid Series rods for 2024 give multispecies anglers a variety of choices from ultra-light to medium-heavy power, in popular lengths between 6’6”and 7’, and fast and extra-fast actions.
What’s more, for every available length, power, and action, Avid now offers anglers both one- and two-piece options. Two-piece Avid Series freshwater rod models offer increased flexibility with respect to travel, transport, and storage and feature St. Croix’s slim profile ferrule design, which makes multi-piece St. Croix rods fish like a one-piece rod.
