Calling an audible is a term in football, referring to when the quarterback has to change a play at the last minute in response to how the opposing team is lining up. Usually, the quarterback doesn’t like what he sees. This last-minute strategy change is dependent upon his ability to read the opponent, and to make a calculated decision based on newly revealed information used in order to exploit the opponent. Bass fishing and the life of a guide parallels the life of a quarterback who’s playmaking for his team. While casting, and navigating the boat, I’m responsible for managing the boat’s playbook for the day. On the offensive, you should always be thinking of your next move like I must, after a bite expires, or if a sudden change in strategy is needed – such as a lake change, lure swap, or downsizing for examples.
