Opportunistic predators with voracious appetites, largemouth bass will eat whatever living creatures swim and slither atop matted weeds or across the lake’s surface. With our lakes gaining in weed cover and plant life, this spells success for anglers pursuing largemouths with reptile and amphibian baits. These days, slop fishing with frogs is wildly popular, with this situation-specific style of fishing having greatly evolved in the past 10-years. Surface frogs in hollow-body and buzzin’ styles simply catch big bass from lake locations that are impenetrable and inaccessible to most other strategies. Almost every major manufacturer is producing these amphibian baits out of elaztech, plastisol, rubber, or hard plastic. I’ve been an avid frog fisherman since the late 2000’s, when a group of friends inspired me to try.
