Patterns for Mid Summer Giants
There is no bad time to catch big largemouths in mid-summer, because they are prolific feeders with voracious appetites, and tolerate well to summertime heat. If I had to identify the best summer season windows, they are the bluegill spawn in June, the establishment of deep green weeds at summer’s peak, and the offshore mass-schooling of juvenile bluegills occurring on most lakes. Weather changes such as cooldowns will also spur activity, opening additional windows. The lives and feeding patterns of largemouth bass revolves around plant life year-round. Aquatic plant species form the foundation of healthy and flourishing underwater ecosystems. Most largemouth habitat on my eutrophic and mesotrophic lakes is vegetated. The best lakes can contain several weed beds and deep weedlines of green cabbage. Once fully established, on the onset of summer peak, it becomes a player for all the deep weedline fishing we will do through year’s end.
