Northwoods Bass Fishing Report – Mid July 2023
In unsurprising fashion, summer has been a blur. Been fishing lots, and traveling back and forth frequently since late May. I also got sick over Independence Day, which brought me down for a week. I recovered enough to return to the water last week.
Recently on my end, a shortened and condensed week of fishing is better than no fishing at all. July (last week mainly) has been pretty good. To my surprise, fishing pressure and boating traffic has been light'ish on weekdays and weekends.
Good fishing is happening daily, but not taking place everywhere. The better bites for smallmouths are taking place on the deepest-clearest-coldest places, while for largemouths the most weediest. The boat has been averaging 20-40 fish per day, which we are content and satisfied with.
My boat has hit some tougher fishing and walls during late afternoons (which this time of year suck to begin with), but morning to midday and again in evenings till dark have been very good.
Water temps ranging from 72-76, and holding steady.
