Northwoods Bass Fishing Report – Mid to Late July, 2024
This report is long overdue and summarizes the fishing from mid July - to present. Summer peak has come and is now deeply established, bass are feeding heavily, and on some days the dog days will necessitate fishing early and late.
The largemouths are on fire right now, providing the hottest bite and biggest daily catches. They are the kings of summer, with the Minocqua area being the largemouth capitol of the north. Many notable fish are being caught, including some in the 20 to 21 inch range.
Good fishing is happening daily, but not taking place everywhere. Windows are short too, with the obvious ones being early mornings (5 to 9 am), and again later in the day resuming around 7pm. Some evenings, I'm not hitting the water until after 8pm, as my better bites are taking place right after sunset at 9pm. No need to do all-niters to catch bass right now, but I do advise going until 10-11pm on the hottest, warmest days. Largemouths are notorious for their nighttime feeding. Smallmouths will do the same too.
Luckily there have been a few coldfront days. In these comfy conditions we are hitting fish midday and all afternoon long.
