Northwoods Bass Fishing Report – Early May 2023
Hoping everyone is having far better luck than I am OFF the water - We'll get to those details down towards the very bottom of this post. Regarding the fishing, it's been going well!
Ice out quickly came and blew through the entire region 1 full week ago. Yet mid-week last week I was still breaking through some ice in order to reach my bass. By Saturday's walleye opener, much of it had melted, including the area's largest and coldest lakes (Trout, Fence, Big Crawl, Black Oak, and Big PI, and many others).
If you've been after walleyes, the fishing for them over the weekend was HOT and outstanding. I spent my time on one of the flowages and on a few area lakes once I realized the bass weren't ready.
For Saturday's opener playing bumper-boats on one of the flowages, my good buddy Cory and I scored a limit in about an hour..... him in far less than an hour, whereas I took almost 90 minutes haha!
Then Saturday through Sunday, we went out for quality. That day and a half, I put 23 fish in the boat up to 25 inches length. Solid excellent specimens. All of them were smacking Z-Man Diezel Minnowz. Fish were very localized, and in pods and sch
