Northwoods Bass Fishing Report – Early July 2023
Hi everyone, fishing has remained good-to-great, as we enter the first days of July.
I just got off the water this week, and evade the tourists. July holiday is the one week of the year I don't want to be up north.
Smallmouth fishing has remained good and above average. We didn't focus on any of the trophy waters this week, but a few 18 to 20-inch class fish did come to the boat. A few of them we caught, others we botched.
Largemouth fishing is still well below average. Lack of weeds has forced me to dock fish and junk fish more. Find any man-made habitats, or any vegetation life forms if any are available. We targeted docks and newly emerging pencil reeds this week, and did alright.
Water temperatures are holding between 68 to 73 degrees in the Minocqua area. Late last week, the warm front and mini heat wave was defeated by a few rounds of cold fronts that delivered north winds.
There's been an all-day bite from what I've been seeing and experiencing. This time of year, my preference is to fish mornings through the midday hours. On some lakes, this time-frame has actually been best. Due to the cool weather and surface temps, there
