Northwoods Bass Fishing Report – Early August 2022
Hello everyone, this report is long overdue! Summer has flown by. While I was on the water a few weeks ago in late June and July, none of it was for bass. Summer peak has come, and dog days are here, we are now back to bass mode.
Last week's fishing proved good, but for some species.
Largemouths were on fire and responding very well to the weather changes and cool mornings.
Smallmouths took a hit, and a major dump. They were a disappointment with nothing larger than 17.5" getting caught.
Among the other species, walleyes, pike and muskies were each very good and active when found.
I spent half the week hosting family, and half the week running trips. We had our ups and downs, catching big fish on the worst days and worst conditions when they've got no business feeding. We also were not catching them when they should be active and feeding too. Weird deal!
Water temps are holding steady at 74-77. By late afternoons and evenings they are running slightly higher, which is bad news for the big predators. Do not over-play, over-handle, and water release if you can. A 49.5 inch muskie was killed from a local lake by anglers not doing the latter, which is ve
